The relegated Championship side comfortably overcame League Two Port Vale to book their place in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Three first-half goals from Adam Armstrong, Andre and Fer Lopez settled the tie, and although Jon Brady’s Vale created opportunities and missed a second-half penalty, Wolves were ultimately too strong for their visitors.

Only one of Wolves’ summer recruits, the former England right-back Kieran Trippier, started the game, while Raul Jimenez received a rapturous reception when he came off the bench after half-time following his return from Fulham.

Wolves now turn their attention to the Championship, with another home game at Molineux next Friday night against Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers. Vale, meanwhile, begin their League Two campaign on the road the following day at Oldham.
