Alan: It’s predictable to hear people claim Eddie Howe’s time is up. Those stirring the pot are the ones who want to see Newcastle struggle. Howe has improved almost every player he’s worked with, while other clubs spend far more for lesser results. The only thing missing is a natural goalscorer. Nick Woltemade looks a fine addition but isn’t that penalty-box poacher or focal point the team needs. Add that kind of player and the league table would look very different. With the talent and backing at the club, there’s no cause for panic. Things will turn around.
Colin: The real mistake was allowing Alexander Isak to leave. Not because he was irreplaceable, but because the club appeared to cave in to pressure. That decision has left a bad feeling in the squad and was a poor call from those at the top.
Martin: The away form is an issue, yes, but one that can be fixed. There’s no need for rash changes. Staying calm and keeping faith in the process is the only way forward.
Andy: ‘Intensity is our identity’ has been Howe’s mantra, but it’s fair to say the team isn’t living up to it. The problem with relying on intensity is that it’s not sustainable over a long season. The energy and passion at St James’ Park drive the players on, but away from home that spark fades. Without that backing, the side struggles to find the same edge.

Graham: I’m a big supporter of Howe, but his reluctance to adapt is a concern. Pope, Burn and Bruno should be rested or rotated more often. It’s an obvious issue that hasn’t been addressed.
Tom: It’s always the same approach, with the same players favoured regardless of form. Why not give Alex Murphy a run at left-back instead of Dan Burn? It’s no surprise young players feel disheartened when opportunities are scarce. Lewis Miley only broke through because of injuries, and Elliott Anderson’s career has flourished elsewhere when it might have stalled if he’d stayed.
Neil: Eddie Howe has done a tremendous job for the club, but he seems to be slipping back into the same predictable habits that appeared around November and December last year. His tendency to stick with certain favourites and his poor in-game decisions are becoming a real issue. The moment the team sheet was announced, it felt like the afternoon would be a struggle, handing the opposition exactly what they expected. The slow, laboured passing and lack of tempo made for a frustrating and baffling performance.
