Former Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scored the decisive goal after he converted from the spot. Referee Clément Turpin judged Dominik Szoboszlai to have fouled Baris Alper Yilmaz. The goal came moments after Davinson Sánchez had cleared Cody Gakpo’s effort off the line.
Let's explore the best reaction
Steven: Dreadful, disjointed, the system far too open and defending slack. No one is working together. Time to strip it back to basics.
Daniel: A hostile atmosphere (see video below) a soft penalty and a side defending in numbers. Yet Liverpool's troubles were self-inflicted. The injuries to Alisson and Ekitike came from poor passes by our own players. We need composure to be accurate. Rash decisions cost more than just results, as tonight showed.
Susie: Both individually and collectively, this was a poor display. They pushed us out of the park, and we surrendered possession far too often. No response after the Crystal Palace game. Apart from Hugo Ekitike, the new signings have not clicked. Is this rebuild a step too far? Slot prefers consistency and a small core of players. That does not fit this season. It will take time but time is a rare commodity in the Premier League.
Benjamin: A bunch of turkeys losing in Turkey. This feels like 2020-21 all over again, coming straight after winning the league. Defensive frailties, lack of depth and an over-reliance on the attack to dig us out nearly derailed that season. It is too early to hit the panic button, but at this rate January looks a long way off.

Andrew: A poor showing. The new players have not settled and we are stretched, exposed at the back and lacking intensity in the press. Under Klopp, signings often took months before bedding in, as Fabinho did. They had to wait for opportunities, gel in training and learn the system. Isak, Wirtz, Kerkez and Frimpong all look off the pace and out of sync with the side.
Edward: We are too easy to play against. Slow and predictable. This was no shock defeat. Beaten by an average team, and it will keep happening if we persist with playing across the back until someone takes it off us. No confidence ahead of Saturday either and these results will soon pile on the pressure.
Vince: The team hasn't settled yet. They are still trying to find balance, which has not been helped by unforced errors. In time, it will improve.
Brad: I am sick and tired of these performances. Some players should be ashamed. How can you spend that much in one transfer window and end up worse? Utterly woeful. Unless this is fixed soon, questions will have to be asked of Arne Slot.
