What happened at Palace? What did the fans think?

Eddie Nketiah struck with virtually the last kick of the game o give Crystal Palace a richly deserved victory and halt Liverpool’s perfect start to the Premier League season.

Federico Chiesa’s 87th-minute equaliser had appeared to rescue a point for the champions after a performance that scarcely warranted reward. But Nketiah pounced at the far post in the seventh minute of added time, lifting Palace to second in the table.

After the match, we spoke to a couple of fans that whilst they were unhappy with the defeat believed it might be exactly what they needed.

Barry: In the first half it looked as though we had forgotten how to play football. We struggled to win the ball in key areas, lost possession repeatedly when trying to deliver the final pass, made careless errors and were fragile at the back. After the break the tempo improved slightly, but we were still too easily dispossessed and guilty of giving away unnecessary fouls. All that being said, this defeat could prove to be a blessing in disguise.

Karl: There seems to be no clear plan or urgency in our play. On another day we could easily have lost by a wider margin. I cannot understand Slot’s team selections, which appear to be influenced by cost rather than form or effectiveness. Arne, it is time to start the experienced players who bring the composure and quality we badly need.

A preview of Galatasaray

Liverpool have met Galatasaray on four occasions in European competition. In the 2001-02 Champions League second group stage, the sides played out a goalless draw at Anfield before sharing a 1-1 stalemate in Istanbul. They were paired again in the 2006-07 group phase, with each team prevailing 3-2 on home soil.

For this encounter, Hugo Ekitike is available again after missing the weekend match against Palace through suspension. With Alexander Isak unlikely to be fit enough to play twice in four days, Ekitike is expected to return to the starting line-up.
