The 36-year-old, a former dual-code England international, took charge for the 2024 campaign and guided the side to a third-place finish in his first year. This season has proved far more challenging, with Warrington all but certain to miss out on the play-offs after back-to-back defeats against struggling Huddersfield and Salford.
Burgess, who previously coached at Orara Valley and South Sydney Rabbitohs in Australia, is in his first head coach role. He extended his original two-year deal last summer, committing himself to the Wire until the end of the 2026 season.

Warrington, beaten by Hull KR in June’s Challenge Cup final, are six points adrift of the play-off spots with three games left. Their inferior points difference leaves their season effectively over, and they will look to restore some pride when they host Leigh Leopards on Saturday, chasing only a second win in seven matches.
Club statement
A message on the Warrington Wolves website reads: "This season has not met the standards we expect. Over the past few days I’ve sat down with players, coaches and staff across the club. The message was clear and united: this is not good enough, and things must change.
"Our supporters work hard all week and spend their hard-earned money to follow this club. We understand the sacrifices you make, and it is our responsibility to repay that faith with committed, honest performances."
What do the fans think?
Jamie, a Warrington Wolves fan, told us: “This has been a terrible season for us. However, I feel this is the correct decision from those at the club.”
“We need consistency across all levels of the club if we are going to rebuild for next season.”
