League Two side Fleetwood Town reached the fourth round of the EFL Cup for the first time, earning a home tie against Premier League champions Arsenal in the last 16.

The visitors were fortunate not to go down at half-time, with goalkeeper Michael Cooper called upon three times as the Cod Army sensed a chance to reach the last 16.

Cooper was powerless to prevent the decisive goal, however, as Norrington-Davies diverted a Danny Andrew cross into his own net.

Fleetwood also had a goal disallowed and struck the woodwork twice, but had to withstand a late onslaught from their Championship opponents before securing their place in the fourth round.

With Matt Lawlor's side unbeaten in their opening eight games in all competitions, the fourth-tier outfit were always likely to pose a threat, particularly with Chris Wilder making seven changes to the team beaten by Wolves in the Championship on Sunday.

Cooper was called into action inside the opening 10 minutes, keeping out Mark Helm's well-struck effort from 20 yards before getting down to deny Lewis McCann at his near post and then saving from Crispin McLean's header.

Sheffield United struggled to make any brief moments of possession count

Tyrese Campbell going closest in the first half but firing wide of Jay Lynch's goal. The visitors failed to heed the warnings after the interval, with a Blades striker forcing Cooper into a full-stretch save before the pivotal moment arrived in the 57th minute.

Andrew's cross bounced up in front of Norrington-Davies and the defender's attempted header ended up in the back of his own net.

It could have been even better for Fleetwood

Andrew almost went from provider to scorer 12 minutes later, but his effort was ruled out, with on-loan Fulham forward Aaron Loupalo-Bi standing in an offside position and preventing Cooper from attempting to save.

The chances continued to come for Fleetwood as McCann's blocked effort deflected off a post, before Andrew struck the opposite upright with the follow-up.

The visitors finally came to life in the closing stages. Tom Cannon had already seen an effort ruled out for offside before Lynch produced superb saves to deny Sydie Peck and Ben Brereton Diaz, while former Sheffield United academy graduate Finley Potter made a brave block from Cannon with the goal gaping.
