Wrexham have made a move for Christian Eriksen in what would be the most audacious signing of the club’s Hollywood era.

Super News | Eriksen at Manchester United

Eriksen is a free agent after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season and is being courted by the newly promoted Championship side, who are eager to bring in his vast experience ahead of their first campaign in the second tier since 1981-82.

Eriksen, capped 144 times by Denmark, is weighing up his next step. His agent, Martin Schoots, told a newspaper that while Wrexham is a “hugely impressive project”, the former Spurs and Ajax midfielder still has ambitions to compete in a top-flight league and remain in western Europe.

Following three successive promotions under Phil Parkinson, Wrexham’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. Their summer recruitment has already included Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward, striker Ryan Hardie, midfielders Lewis O’Brien and George Thomason, left-back Liberato Cacace and playmaker Josh Windass.

But a move for Eriksen would mark an entirely different level of intent. The Dane featured 35 times for United last season, scoring five goals, but now finds himself without a club. His career has spanned spells at Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan and Brentford, before his move to Old Trafford where he won both the FA Cup and League Cup.

Wrexham begin their Championship return away to Southampton on Saturday 9 August, with the club’s ambitions clearly stretching well beyond mere survival.
