It has been reported in the media that the deal could be completed this week with Newcastle seeking to strengthen their attacking options as they prepare for their return to the Champions League.

Elanga scored six goals and had 11 assists for Nuno Espirito Santo's side during what was a fairly successful 2024-25 Premier League season.

Eddie Howe's side have yet to pay a fee for a player this summer, with 18-year-old Spanish winger Antonio Cordero the only new arrival on a free transfer from Malaga.

Nottingham Forest are believed to have paid £15m to sign Elanga from Manchester United on a five-year-deal in 2023.

He had arrived at Old Trafford before he was a teenager and made 55 appearances before moving to the City Ground. Many fans of Manchester United still debate whether it was the correct move letting him go in 2023.

Why are they interested in Elanga?

Newcastle's interest in Anthony Elanga speaks volumes about his growing reputation after an outstanding season at Nottingham Forest.

The data suggests a player not just developing, but thriving in some of the Premier League's most crucial attacking areas.

According to a radar chart compiled by Opta and shared via FBref, Elanga ranks among the leading Premier League attacking midfielders and wingers across a range of key metrics.

He sits in the 80th percentile for goal-creating actions, placing him ahead of the vast majority of his positional peers in that category.

His strong ranking for shots-on-target percentage further points to his efficiency in front of goal. He is not simply a threat, but a player who makes his chances count.
