The 23-year-old French striker has completed a medical and agreed personal terms, and is expected to join Liverpool's pre-season tour of Asia later this week.

Frankfurt accepted a deal earlier this week worth £79m in total, including £10m in potential add-ons. Ekitike’s arrival takes Liverpool’s summer spending beyond the £250m mark.

The club broke new ground with the signing of Florian Wirtz for a potential British record £116m, while defenders Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong were brought in for a combined £70m.

Newcastle United had a £70m offer for Ekitike rejected earlier this month. Liverpool, meanwhile, are also believed to hold an interest in the Magpies’ forward Alexander Isak.

Ekitike scored 15 goals in 31 starts for Frankfurt last season and registered eight assists as the Bundesliga side secured a third-place finish. Only five players bettered his goal tally in the German top flight, and no one attempted more than his 117 shots on goal.

A constantly evolving and improving gem of a player

Ekitike’s 15 goals and eight assists amounted to the fifth-highest goal involvement in the Bundesliga last season. He also ranked fifth for involvement in attacking sequences, underlining his influence across multiple phases of play.

His game combines physicality and finesse. Whether holding the ball up, running the channels, or accelerating in behind, Ekitike has a dynamic presence. He draws favourable comparisons to Isak, though with greater flair and a clear appetite for taking on defenders.

He also excels creatively, having created 44 chances from open play in 2024–25, more than any other forward in the Bundesliga.
