What caused Wolves to make this decision?

Edwards and his coaching staff first became aware that a change could be imminent after seeing speculation online linking Cesar Peixoto with the role at Molineux.

Following the reports, representatives for Edwards sought clarification from the club late on Wednesday evening. Wolves subsequently confirmed on Thursday morning that he had been dismissed.

The decision has come as a surprise, with Peixoto, who guided Gil Vicente to a sixth-place finish in Portugal's Primeira Liga last season, expected to be named as Edwards' successor.

Edwards' assistants, Harry Watling and Paul Trollope, will also leave the club.

Is this a massive gamble?

It is believed that Molineux staff have been stunned by the decision which also blindsided Rob Edwards and his coaches.

The club's Technical director Matt Jackson was given the job of dismissing Edwards just weeks after saying they were all united in their thinking.
