Liverpool fans have been discussing their Champions League exit

Is this the beginning of the end for Arne Slot

Author | William G

Iain: Liverpool showed willing, but there was a sense that Paris St-Germain remained in control throughout. Much has gone against them this season, yet the more pressing concern is the absence of a defined identity. The effort is there, but it often feels improvised and reactive, which ultimately reflects on the coaching.

Francis: A disjointed and ineffective display, with puzzling decisions around formation, personnel and approach. There are growing doubts about whether Arne Slot is equipped to manage at this level, and he may yet depart at the end of the season, even if Liverpool just about secure a Champions League place.

Kate: A marked improvement in performance, though they came up against a side of genuine quality in Paris St-Germain. Liverpool once operated at that level, but no longer. A significant rebuild appears necessary if they are to re-establish themselves among Europe’s elite.

Mikey: There is a feeling that Slot’s tenure has run its course. The intensity and occasion of Champions League nights at Anfield seem to have faded, replaced by a run of underwhelming displays. The sense of fight that once defined this side is no longer evident.

Marcus: An improved showing, but the inability to find a goal remains a concern. A top-five finish now feels essential to avoid the season being judged a failure.

Shaun: A spirited effort, though the result rarely felt in doubt. Once again there was frustration with team selection, particularly after the win against Fulham. There is a growing impatience among supporters for change.

Patrick: Liverpool rallied in the second half, but the damage had arguably been done with the starting line-up. Having lost on penalties to Paris St-Germain last year, the contrast this time was stark, with a clear gulf between the sides. Questions around Slot’s leadership are only intensifying.

Terry: Slot’s decision to start an out-of-form Alexander Isak was difficult to justify. Even so, the disparity in quality across both legs was clear. Hugo Ekitike’s injury only compounded matters. There is a lingering frustration that a costly squad has failed to deliver, with recruitment and direction now under scrutiny as rivals move ahead.
