The win moves Brighton to within two points of sixth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League, while Burnley were left staring at the growing likelihood of a return to the Championship.
With only one league victory since October, Burnley sit 12 points from safety with six games remaining.
It was a familiar tale for Burnley at their home ground
Jaidon Anthony thought he had given the hosts an early lead, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside, setting the tone for a frustrating afternoon.
Brighton gradually asserted control and threatened midway through the first half when Danny Welbeck failed to convert from close range after Maxime Esteve inadvertently knocked the ball from the grasp of his own goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka.

The pressure told shortly before the interval. Wieffer arrived late in the area to guide home a low cross from Pascal Gross, giving the visitors a deserved lead.
They might have doubled their advantage before the break, but neither Welbeck nor Jack Hinshelwood could turn Diego Gomez’s knock-back into the net.
Burnley’s frustration continued after the restart. Bashir Humphreys saw a close-range finish ruled out for a marginal offside, before Bart Verbruggen denied Zian Flemming with an outstretched leg.
Hinshelwood was later kept out by a sharp save from Dubravka, but Wieffer ensured the points were secure in the closing moments, firing in from the edge of the area to seal his second of the afternoon.
It marks a third consecutive victory for Brighton, who sit ninth, while Burnley remain second bottom with just one win in their past 23 league games.
