The 34 year old was appointed on a two and a half year contract on 11 January following the exit of Ryan Mason.

Ramsay, a former coach at Manchester United, inherited a side sitting 18th in the table and seven points clear of the bottom three.

However, Albion failed to record a win during his brief tenure, with Tuesday’s 1 1 home draw against Charlton Athletic proving to be his final game in charge.

They are now only one point clear of the relegation zone.

How has the club's hierarchy responded?

In a statement, the club said: “West Bromwich Albion have parted company with men’s first team head coach Eric Ramsay. Assistant head coach Dennis Lawrence has also departed The Hawthorns.

“First team coach James Morrison will take charge of first team affairs on an interim basis.”
