After a frantic goalmouth scramble, Adli kept his composure to finish in the fifth minute of added time, sparking wild celebrations among the home support after Liverpool had earlier fought back from two goals down.

With 10 minutes remaining, Dominik Szoboszlai curled in his second free-kick of the week to draw Liverpool level, having already set up Virgil van Dijk to head home a corner shortly before the interval and begin the comeback.

Liverpool’s problems stemmed from a calamitous seven-minute spell in the first half that left Arne Slot’s side trailing by two. Evanilson opened the scoring in the 26th minute after Van Dijk failed to clear his lines, with Joe Gomez injured in a collision with Alisson as he attempted to block the shot.

With Gomez off the pitch and Wataru Endo waiting to be introduced, Liverpool continued with 10 men and were punished again in the 33rd minute when Alex Jimenez ran on to James Hill’s through ball and finished between Alisson’s legs to double Bournemouth’s advantage.

Liverpool eventually made the substitution and responded with resilience. Van Dijk’s header from Szoboszlai’s corner just before half-time offered hope, which was realised after the break when Mohamed Salah rolled a free-kick into Szoboszlai’s path for the midfielder to steer a low effort past Djordje Petrovic.

Both sides pressed for a winner in open, end-to-end play. Alisson tipped Ryan Christie’s effort over the bar, while Petrovic produced an excellent save to deny Florian Wirtz at the other end.

Adli’s late strike survived a VAR check for a possible foul in the build-up, confirming Liverpool’s first defeat since November. Still without a league win in 2026, Liverpool remain fourth in the table, while Bournemouth climb to 13th.
