O’Hare, who also scored the decisive goal at Oxford to give United their only other win this campaign, was on target again at Bramall Lane, turning in from close range to lift the Blades off the bottom of the Championship on goal difference above Sheffield Wednesday.
For Wilder, this could be the result that sparks a revival after three defeats in his first five games back for a third spell as manager. Dutch midfielder Jairo Riedewald made his debut late on after joining on a free transfer the previous day.
Watford were flat throughout and managed just one shot on target. Gracia, back in charge for his second stint with the Hornets, was warmly received by travelling fans but saw his side offer little threat going forward. Luca Kjerrumgaard produced their only effort on target, which was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Michael Cooper.
A closer look at what happened
United began brightly, with Louie Barry, standing in for the injured Gus Hamer, providing a threat from set pieces. Mark McGuinness twice went close from corners, while Egil Selvik in the Watford goal saved headers from McGuinness and Japhet Tanganga.
Watford had chances of their own through Nestory Irankunda and Kjerrumgaard, while Caleb Wiley squandered a golden opportunity when he sliced wide from close range.
That miss proved costly. Just before the hour, Tyrese Campbell’s shot was parried and O’Hare reacted quickest to turn in Andre Brooks’ follow-up. Watford pressed for an equaliser late on, and Imran Louza was inches away from rescuing a point when his curling effort struck the bar with four minutes remaining.
In the sixth minute of the five added on, Keben squandered a golden chance for Watford, and when referee Andy Madley blew for full time, the home crowd inside S2 erupted in celebration.
