Fleetwood Town recorded a comfortable victory over Leeds United U21s in the EFL Trophy group stage.

Pete Wild’s side produced a composed and clinical performance on home soil that would have sent the fans home happy.
The Fleetwood manager made a number of changes to the eleven that started at the weekend away at Cheltenham Town. David Harrington comes into the side, with young central defender Conor Haughey making his Fleetwood debut, having previously been named on the bench.
Goals from James Norwood and Will Davies put Town in full control before the break, with Norwood adding his second early in the second half before netting his hat-trick goal in the last ten minutes to secure all three points in the Northern Group G and extend Fleetwood’s strong form in the competition.
A good workout for some younger players
There were eight academy graduates in the squad tonight, with 5 of those starting. All played their part in a good performance that ensured their side in the knockout stage of the competition.
After the match, youngster Kayden Hughes said to the media that he was delighted to play his part in the win. His performance was something that definitely impressed Fleetwood supporters.
Next up for Fleetwood
Harrogate Town are next up for the Cods at Highbury, as Pete Wild’s side return to Sky Bet League Two action.
The Leeds United perspective
Despite the heavy defeat, this was a spirited performance from the Leeds Under 21s. From the perspective of the manager and coaches at Elland Road, these matches against professional opposition are vital in the young players development.
They round off their EFL Trophy campaign next month with a trip to the Wham Stadium to face Accrington Stanley.
