Yorkshire | Sheffield Wednesday sign Harry Amass on loan
Manchester United’s Harry Amass has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan.
The 18-year-old had been expected to leave temporarily following the arrival of Paraguay Under-20 international Diego Leon.

Despite making seven first-team appearances last season, Amass was omitted from Ruben Amorim’s pre-season tours to Sweden and the United States.
Several clubs had shown interest in the defender, but United were keen to secure a move that would provide consistent playing time. Wednesday are viewed as offering that platform, with the ownership disputes involving Dejphon Chansiri not seen as an obstacle. United will continue to cover Amass’s wages during the loan spell.
On Friday, the former Watford academy player was named in the England Under-19 squad for their upcoming matches against Ukraine, Spain and the Netherlands during the international break.
How the deal happened
As deadline day drew to a close, there were moments when Harry Amass’s loan to Sheffield Wednesday appeared to be in jeopardy, despite the teenager having travelled to South Yorkshire and completed his medical. The move was eventually pushed through after Manchester United provided assurances to ease the process.
It is understood United agreed to cover the entirety of Amass’s costs during his time at Hillsborough, including wages, accommodation and any bonuses due between now and January.

The EFL is not expected to permit Wednesday to sign free agents outside the transfer window until Dejphon Chansiri can demonstrate that he is able to fund the club sustainably. For now, Amass stands as the club’s only addition.
A closer look at his career so far
Amass joined Manchester United from Watford in 2023 and made an immediate impression, featuring regularly for the Under-18s and Under-21s during a debut season that saw the club’s youth sides claim three trophies, including the Under-18 Premier League title.
His progress earned him a place on the first-team bench for two Premier League fixtures as well as the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. A regular for England at youth level, Amass was also involved throughout United’s 2024 pre-season campaign.
He played seven matches throughout United's ill-fated 2024/2025 campaign and impressed despite difficult circumstances.
