Huddersfield Town v Burton Albion

Following their goalless draw against Burton Albion last weekend, Lee Grant’s side are back in Carabao Cup action, as they host Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Accu Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Huddersfield Town have won five, drawn one, and lost three of their nine League One fixtures, leaving them fifth in the table with 16 points. However, their form has taken a worrying turn in recent games, with just one win from their last four.

Alongside their encouraging start to the league term, the Terriers are undefeated in cup competitions, including a 6-2 victory over Newcastle United U21's in the EFL Trophy and penalty wins over Leicester City and Sunderland in the Carabao Cup

History between the two sides.

Huddersfield last faced Manchester City back in January 2024, where Bojan Radulović came on as a substitute to make his debut in the FA Cup fixture. The Premier League side came out on top that day.

They were the only team to have prevented Manchester City from scoring at home during the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, holding Pep Guardiola’s side to a goalless draw in the May of that season.

Their last win over City dates back to November 1999, when Chris Beech’s header earned Steve Bruce’s side victory at Maine Road in front of 32,936 supporters.

They are set to be without Herbie Kane, Lynden Gooch and Jack Whatmough for Wednesday’s tie, although all three are expected to return in the coming weeks.

Darren Grant is likely to name a side similar to the one that overcame Leicester City and Sunderland on their way to the third round, with Daniel Vost and David Kasumu anchoring the midfield.

Up front, leading scorer Joe Taylor is expected to start, joined in attack by Dion Charles, Leo Castledine and Will Alves.

City are likely to be without Mateo Kovacic, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki through injury, while Erling Haaland is a doubt after back pain forced him off in the recent match against Arsenal.

James Trafford began the season as City’s first-choice goalkeeper before making way for Gianluigi Donnarumma, but the England international is expected to be restored to the starting line-up here.

Elsewhere, Savinho, Rico Lewis, Nico González and Oscar Bobb are all in contention to start, with Guardiola set to make widespread changes to his team.
