Scenes after Vardy scored his 200th Leicester goal in My 2025 |
Celtic’s lack of a reliable finisher has been plain to see, while Vardy remains without a club following the end of his long spell at Leicester City last season.
His 13 years with the Foxes brought two promotions, an FA Cup win and the extraordinary Premier League title triumph of 2016. In that time he scored 200 goals in 500 appearances, becoming both a relentless goalscorer and a notorious irritant to opposition defenders and supporters alike.

Now 38, Vardy is far removed from his peak but the question remains whether he could still offer Celtic sharpness in attack, and whether the Scottish champions might give him one final stage to make an impact.
What would a move to Celtic mean for Vardy?
The striker need only glance at the example of others who extended their careers in Scotland after glittering spells in England.
Joe Hart, a multiple Premier League winner, helped anchor Celtic’s recent period of domestic dominance, while Kasper Schmeichel, Vardy’s former Leicester team-mate, also added his experience to the squad.
Across the city, Jermaine Defoe’s short but effective stint at Rangers contributed to th most recent league triumph, offering a reminder that seasoned Premier League performers can still leave their mark in the Scottish game.
Why are Celtic interested?
Above all else, Vardy has a track record of scoring goals. Many of those 200 for his former club have come in the Premier League, reaching double figures in a season seven times in the Premier League. Even last season, he managed nine goals which is impressive for a side that struggled to create decent chances for its attacking players.
