Tommy Makinson’s hat-trick inside 30 minutes, along with a score from Matthieu Laguerre, had put Catalans firmly in control. It looked like Warrington Wolves were going to suffer a potentially devastating defeat.

Zack Gardner then crossed for Warrington’s opener, with Jake Thewlis adding another to narrow the gap to 22-12 at half-time.

The hosts dominated after the break. Sam Stone’s try and a second for Jake Thewlis edged them ahead before Josh Thewlis sprinted clear to secure victory, moving Wire within three points of sixth-placed Hull FC with five games left. It was Warrington’s fourth successive win over Catalans, although they were second best for much of the opening period.

Makinson struck first with a diving finish in the corner, before Gardner responded for the hosts. Catalans reasserted control when Laguerre powered through tackles to score, and Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet’s clever chip set up Makinson’s second. The winger then completed his treble after latching onto Luke Keary’s kick, but suffered a shoulder injury in the process and took no further part.

Warrington hit back before the interval through George Williams’ kick, gathered by Connor Wrench, who sent Jake Thewlis racing to the line. On the restart, a deflected Williams grubber fell kindly for Stone to score, sparking sustained home pressure.

Jake Thewlis then produced the standout moment of the night, acrobatically grounding in the corner, before Marc Sneyd’s fourth goal from five attempts put Warrington ahead. Josh Thewlis sealed the win after Catalans lost possession near halfway, capping a second-half turnaround of complete control.
