Castleford laid down an early marker with a try inside four minutes, as Innes Senior finished acrobatically in the corner. A lengthy video review by James Vella confirmed the winger had stayed in play, and Rowan Milnes converted expertly from a difficult angle.
Hull responded with their first real attacking spell of the match less than 10 minutes later. Yusuf Aydin burst through the defensive line before being brought down just short, with Cade Cust spinning the ball wide for Barron to score in the corner.
Castleford were back in front midway through the first half. Louis Senior bulldozed his way through four Hull defenders to touch down, exposing frailties in the home side's defensive structure.
Both Innes Senior and Barron then produced superb try-saving tackles at either end in the closing moments of the half, preserving the visitors' slender lead.
Hull came out with renewed intent after the break and pushed hard for an equaliser. They were twice denied, first by an offside call and then by some resilient defending on the Castleford line.

Instead, it was the visitors who stretched their advantage. Latahlia Asi sliced through Hull’s backline from close range to score, with Milnes again converting to put Castleford 12 points clear.
Any hopes of a Hull comeback appeared extinguished when Sione Amone crashed over beside the posts, capitalising on another error in a match riddled with mistakes from the home side.
There was a flicker of hope for Hull late on, as Liam Martin scored two quick tries in the corner to reduce the deficit. But Sezer failed to land either conversion, leaving Hull to rue what might have been on a night dominated by Castleford’s composure and clinical finishing.
Castleford fan reaction
One fan from the away end told us: "I'm very pleased. It was a spirited, detailed performance. The players demonstrated great commitment."
Terri added: "They have got a tough block of games coming up and are now in a good place to attack that. Everybody was strong against Hull and the team will need everyone to contribute for a win."
