The Switzerland international combined with fellow substitute Harry Wilson 11 minutes from time before firing home at Elland Road, less than two minutes after coming off the bench.

His second goal of the season secured Leeds their first three points in six matches, while bringing Tottenham's three-game winning run to an end.

Leeds, however, were arguably fortunate to still have 11 players on the pitch when Okafor broke the deadlock, following a controversial incident towards the end of the first half.

There was some controversy

Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi was furious after Jayden Bogle escaped punishment for a reckless challenge on Mathys Tel, with tempers flaring just after the half-hour mark.

Following a VAR review lasting more than four minutes, referee John Brooks decided against sending off the Leeds defender, who was not even shown a yellow card.

De Zerbi's frustration grew when Tel was subsequently forced off with an injury, making way for Dominic Solanke.

Solanke made an immediate impact after the restart, finding himself in the right place to clear Dominic Calvert-Lewin's header off the line from a corner five minutes into the second half.

How the match was eventually won

Leeds continued to press for an opener, however, and enjoyed a dominant spell after the break. Ao Tanaka and Sean Longstaff both went close before the breakthrough finally arrived, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters.

How Yorkshire Super News reported on the match

Okafor pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area and smashed it beyond Antonin Kinsky to seal Leeds' first victory over Tottenham since May 2021.

The result lifts Leeds to eighth in the table, while Tottenham's first defeat in five matches leaves them 10th.
