Derensili Sanches Fernandes scored one and created another during a dominant first half for Town, while Finn Delap lashed home his third goal of the season to briefly bring Albion level.

The Terriers made the stronger start

They deservedly went ahead after 22 minutes, Fernandes pouncing on a poor pass from Delap across his own penalty area before instinctively firing into the net.

Burton struggled to threaten for much of the opening half-hour but drew level when Caylan Vickers teed up Delap, with the young defender making amends for his earlier mistake by sending a fierce rising drive beyond Matt Young and into the top corner.

Huddersfield restored their lead before half-time, with Fernandes turning provider as his cross from the right found Bali Mumba ghosting into space in the area, and the midfielder finished from five yards.

Delap came close to a second early in the second half with another powerful effort, but Young produced a good save to keep him out.

Instead, Huddersfield were gifted a third goal in the closing minutes when George Evans put his own goalkeeper under pressure with a loose back pass, allowing Ashley Fletcher to nip in and score from close range.
