Adam Reach had put Lincoln ahead with a composed finish against the club where he began his career, while a series of fine saves from George Wickens kept the visitors in front until Lankshear struck in the 62nd minute.
The summer signing from Tottenham showed good instincts to divert the ball home from close range and level the contest.
The 21-year-old then completed the turnaround in stoppage time to take his tally to three goals in his first two games for Middlesbrough, having struck the post just minutes earlier.
Best reaction from Middlesbrough fans
David: Absolutely shocking tactics in the first half. Too much sideways and backwards passing before ultimately giving the ball away. Things improved after the break with the substitutions, but we would be sunk without Lankshear.
Ben: There is plenty of room for improvement with these players. The defence needs to be more resolute, there needs to be greater pace in attack and they must switch play from right to left more quickly. Boro will finish in the top six.
Steven: Very fortunate to win after such a poor first-half display. They managed to put things right after the break, but the defensive frailties are there for everyone to see.
Ron: A good second-half performance. With so many new players, it was always going to take time to adjust, and they deservedly beat a really tough side. With Strelec, Morris and Conway still to return from injury, I think we could have a great season.
