Having won 2-1 at Easter Road last week, David Gray’s side knew anything other than defeat would take them to within one tie of the group stage.

They produced a disciplined defensive display, restricting their North Macedonian hosts largely to efforts from distance.

A closer analysis of what happened

Nathan Lowe and Owen Elding both shot straight at Ferat Ramani as Hibs passed up two excellent opportunities to extend their aggregate advantage.

Those misses ultimately mattered little as the visitors managed the game expertly, slowing the tempo and repelling everything Shkendija could muster.

The hosts’ best chance of forcing extra time fell to Fahd Ndzengue, but the striker fired into the side netting after breaking clear of Raphael Sallinger in the Hibs goal.

Coming off the back of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership victory at Ibrox, it has been an excellent week for the Easter Road side. They will now face the winners of the tie between Gent and Gothenburg in the play-offs.
