Mohamed Salah appeared to have salvaged a point for Liverpool after Rodrigo Gomes had given the hosts a deserved lead. Yet deep into added time, Andre’s effort deflected off Joe Gomez and looped beyond the goalkeeper, sparking delirium inside the stadium.

It was the fifth occasion this season that Arne Slot’s team have conceded a decisive goal in injury time, a habit that is becoming increasingly costly.

Only a third league victory of the campaign for Rob Edwards’ Wolves, who remain rooted to the foot of the table and still seem bound for the Championship. Yet their recent home form tells a more complicated story. Liverpool have now followed Aston Villa in departing empty-handed, while Arsenal were also held in Wolverhampton.

Edwards marked the winner with an impromptu dash down the touchline. The 43-year-old later admitted the sprint may have taken more out of him than he first realised.

It was the same old story for the Liverpool boss

In the build up to this match, Arne Slot told the press and media that he found most Premier League games no longer a joy to watch.

He certainly won't have changed his mind after. Or maybe he did, for all the accusations of lack of quality in the league this season, you'd have to say that it's certainly been exciting. With the team at the bottom of the table able to stun the Premier League’s biggest clubs. It certainly isn't dull.
