Last time out for Rotherham

In the EFL Trophy, they produced a superb second-half fightback at the expense of Oldham Athletic to maintain their hopes of taking their participation in the competition past the Group Stage.

Key team news for The Millers

In welcome news for everyone associated with the club, Sam Nombe could be handed a place in the matchday squad after coming through his long-awaited return to full training this week following a two-month injury absence.

Northampton Town perspective

In the league, they were held to a 0-0 draw at Port Vale. The visitors created the better openings but returned home still searching for their first win at Vale Park since 2016.

In the EFL Trophy, they earned a hard-fought victory away to League Two leaders Walsall. Kamarai Swyer struck in the 88th minute, curling a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the box. Walsall pushed for an equaliser deep into stoppage time, but the Cobblers stood firm to secure another clean sheet and their second win of the group stage.

Key stats ahead of the match

Rotherham United head into the weekend boasting a strong record against Northampton Town, having won each of their last five league meetings and keeping clean sheets in the most recent four.

However, the Millers’ start to the current campaign has been far from convincing. Their return of just eight points from the opening ten fixtures marks their poorest showing at this stage of a third-tier season since the 1996-97 season, when they ultimately went down.

Northampton, meanwhile, have managed only one win in their last eleven league encounters with Rotherham (D4 L6), though that solitary success came at home back in August 2012, a 2-1 victory.

Recent form has been far more encouraging for the Cobblers, who have lost just once in their last six league outings (W4 D1), keeping a clean sheet in each of their four wins during that run.
