Daniel Farke’s side had not lost on their own turf since early September 2024, when Burnley won there in the Championship. But Kudus was the difference on a sodden afternoon in Yorkshire, guiding Spurs back to winning ways after two draws in four days.
Mathys Tel opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, latching on to Kudus’s through ball before unleashing a superb 20-yard strike that took a slight deflection off Pascal Struijk to wrongfoot goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
Leeds responded through Noah Okafor, who reacted quickest after Guglielmo Vicario parried Brenden Aaronson’s shot, following strong work from Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the build-up.
As the rain began to fall heavily, Kudus restored Tottenham’s lead with a fine finish from the edge of the box, his low shot finding the bottom corner.
The result lifts Spurs to second in the Premier League, one point behind Liverpool ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.
How an unbeaten run at fortress Elland Road came to an end
Elland Road had been something of a fortress since Leeds United’s return to the Premier League, with one win and two draws from their opening home fixtures.
Daniel Farke named an unchanged side for the fifth successive match and his team began brightly, Joe Rodon glancing a header against the post early on.
But Leeds’ recent form has raised concerns about where their goals will come from this season. Noah Okafor remains the only player to have scored more than once in the league, while summer signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin has yet to add to the solitary goal he managed at Wolves two weeks ago.
Sean Longstaff, one of the more reliable additions to the squad, went close but dragged his effort wide as Leeds pushed for an equaliser.
Farke introduced two extra forwards in the closing stages in a desperate bid to find a breakthrough. Substitute Joel Piroe came closest, forcing a fine save from Guglielmo Vicario in added time, before Pascal Struijk headed over from a late corner.
Despite the defeat, Leeds’ attacking intent and willingness to take risks will serve them well as they look to establish themselves in the top flight and avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
