Liverpool fan William G analyses the late drama against Chelsea and what it might mean for the rest of their campaign.

Liverpool were always likely to face a testing start to the season, with a demanding run of fixtures and several new arrivals still bedding into the side. 

We have ridden our luck at times, needing late goals in six of their first seven games to remain unbeaten in all competitions up to last weekend. 

You'd have to say that though we have generally been the stronger team in those matches and ultimately merited the victories. Winning late without playing "that" well is always a good sign. However, there were clear negatives in many of those matches. 

The problems that appeared at Stamford Bridge

Despite everything, we probably had the chances to win this. That's an issue in itself though. Since Isak was introduced, we haven't quote found that cohesion yet.  

The lack of a coherent attacking strategy has resulted in people starting to ask some questions about Mo Salah. Since joining from Roma back in 2017, he has been painting masterpieces in red week after week. But right now, even this modern Liverpool legend looks short on confidence.

Too many times he gave the ball away and when Wirtz teed him up beautifully early in the second half, Salah could only drag his shot wide. It just isn’t clicking for him at the moment.

Later on, when he did find space to shoot, his efforts flew off target and the sight of him standing there, head down in frustration, summed up the night.

What happens next?

The manager will have two weeks to try and sort things out as Liverpool go into the international break on a run of three defeats. The players will come back from international duty and a have a game against Manchester United to look forward to.
