The visitors created the better openings in a subdued first half, with Tyrese Shade twice denied by sharp stops from Lee Nicholls, who pushed efforts away from the bottom corner. At the other end, Charlie Webster came close to breaking the deadlock with a strike from the edge of the area, only for Ryan Ledson to produce a superb block that diverted it over the bar.

Huddersfield finally tested Bradley Collins shortly before the hour, when Joe Taylor’s powerful drive was beaten away by the Burton goalkeeper. That sparked a more sustained spell of pressure, but Alex Hartridge cleared Sean Roughan’s attempt off the line to preserve parity.

The home side pushed hard in the closing stages, threatening from set pieces, but Joe Low headed straight at Collins and two further efforts were cleared off the line in added time.

Which Huddersfield players performed well?

Josh Feeney: Returned to the line-up after a few matches out. Calm in possession and dealt with Burton’s threat without fuss.

Ruben Roosken: Shifted back to left-back. Suffered a stray elbow to the face just before half-time which left him bloodied and may have contributed to his withdrawal at the break. Defended his side of the pitch reasonably well.

David Kasumu: Handed his first league start of the season. Worked hard off the ball but was not always the most reliable passing option for the centre-backs as they tried to build play. Offered more in advanced areas though, driving forward and troubling Burton on a couple of occasions.

Fans critical of the performance

Robert, a Huddersfield fan, was critical of the manager and the overall performance: "Playing out too slowly and not looking for players making runs. Redman was off down the wing a couple of times, he may have scored 20 or more for his last club, and now he is not even getting shots away."

Colin, another Huddersfield fan, added: "Credit to Burton, they defended well and we had a couple cleared off the line, but with the squad we have, especially at home, we should be finishing these off."
