The Forest manager with Chris Wood

Thomas: I am gutted. He took us from the brink of relegation to the best league position I have ever seen, and this is how it ends. The timing feels reckless, with Arsenal coming up at the weekend and Europe around the corner. Unless Evangelos Marinakis already has a replacement lined up, it looks a rash call.

Louise: It is a daft decision, but not a shock given the noise of recent weeks. Typical Forest, finding a way to stumble just when things are looking bright.

Shaun: After guiding us into Europe for the first time in three decades, Nuno deserved the chance to lead the team there. Clearly the relationship with Mr Marinakis had broken down, but his work merited gratitude and respect. The timing is all wrong. The international break would have been the chance for a new manager to settle in. What began as a promising season now risks unravelling badly.

Ethan Lamb posted on X: Many of us were unsure when he arrived, but it’s safe to say Nuno EspĂrito Santo has written his name in Nottingham Forest history. A great manager, but an even better bloke. Such a disappointment that it’s ended this way.

Adrian: Nuno brought this on himself. You do not cross Marinakis and expect to survive. I am curious to see who the next man will be for the European Reds.

Lewis: I was stunned to wake up to this. I fear the season could unravel. A new manager has had no say in the signings and now has to make it work. Nuno was clearly frustrated, as most managers would be if they were not consulted on new arrivals. Handing that situation to a newcomer feels like a recipe for trouble.

Michael: It looks absurd, but there was only ever going to be one outcome. When a manager falls out with an owner, especially this one, there is only one winner.

Discussion around his replacement

Matthew posted on X: Ange Postecoglou proved himself to be far more adaptable than he’s often given credit for in Tottenham’s run to Europa League success. Nonsense to think he can’t/won’t bring out the best of the Nottingham Forest squad. PL will be much better for his return.

Hayden: “What happened to the likes of Mourinho? It feels like we need a more experienced coach and manager.”
