Moore’s opener came firmly against the run of play at The New Den, where Alex Neil’s side had controlled possession and created the better chances. Kevin Nisbet spurned Millwall’s best opportunity to equalise deep into added time, moments before O’Brien settled the contest with a composed finish.
The win, Wrexham’s first in the second tier since the 1981-82 campaign, lifts Phil Parkinson’s side to 15th in the table. Millwall, who had been chasing a third win in four games, sit three places higher.
A closer look at what happened
The hosts had looked the more likely in the first half, with Aidomo Emakhu a constant menace down the left. Massimo Luongo and Camiel Neghli saw efforts blocked, while Mihailo Ivanovic headed wide from an Emakhu cross. Wrexham offered little going forward, with home goalkeeper Steven Benda largely untroubled.
Millwall continued to dictate after the break, Ward saving well from Emakhu before Coburn fired narrowly wide. Yet it was Wrexham who struck first when Moore rose to meet Max Cleworth’s cross and powered a header beyond Benda.

Although Emakhu wasted another chance to level and Nisbet sent a late effort over after Ward’s injury disrupted play, Wrexham stood firm. With the game deep into stoppage time, substitute James McClean found O’Brien, who rifled past Benda to spark celebrations among the travelling fans.
Analysis of the win and performance
Danny, a Wrexham fan, provided some wider context for this win. He said: “Forty-three years. Just think about that. It is a long wait for a victory in the second tier. But at last, Wrexham’s Hollywood story took on a Championship reality with a gritty win at The Den.
“Fittingly, it was a Welshman, Kieffer Moore, who threw himself into the contest and delivered the decisive moment with a brave header. Then Lewis O’Brien applied the finishing touch, making the final minutes all the more enjoyable for the travelling fans.”
