Despite midweek exertions in Europe, the away side dominated the match and could’ve won by more than the eventual slender advantage.
Scotland international Bowie scored both goals with two clinical finishes during the first half.
Fin Robertson reduced the arrears to give his side hope. However, Dundee remained second-best all over the park, and Hibs held out for a first-day win.
A closer look at what happened
Kieron Bowie opened the scoring with the first shot of the game, though it took until the 28th minute to arrive. The forward was quickest to react to a loose ball in the box and drilled a low effort into the bottom corner.

Three minutes later, Bowie doubled his tally. Jordan Obita’s strike was parried by Jon McCracken, but the rebound fell kindly for the Scotland striker to tuck home from close range.
At that stage, it appeared Hibernian were set to coast to victory. Steven Pressley, already under scrutiny following Dundee’s limp exit from the Premier Sports Cup group stages, looked on anxiously, notebook in hand.

Dundee’s goal came not through invention, but through error. Jack Iredale lost his footing at the back, allowing Ashley Hay to break into the box and pull the ball back for Fin Robertson to finish with composure.
That gave the hosts a foothold, but it was Hibs who continued to look the more likely to add to their tally. They should have done just that when Josh Campbell found himself completely unmarked at the back post from a corner, only to direct his header straight at McCracken from four yards.
